And then there were just 19 more transfer targets left.
Manchester United look to have missed out on Ilkay Gundogan after the midfielder has committed his future to Borussia Dortmund.
The 24-year-old has signed a new two-year contract at the Signal Iduna Park.
United had been linked with the German from as early as May but, as the summer wore on, speculation wore off – especially considering almost every other footballer on the planet were since rumoured to be coming to Old Trafford.
But Red Devils fans trying to decode the transfer puzzle can perhaps cross Gundogan off their list of potential new recruits.
The Bundesliga club announced his new contract this afternoon.

“I am glad that we finally have clarity and I can continue playing for Borussia Dortmund. I am now fully focused on preparations for the new season,” Gundogan was quoted on the Dortmund website.
Now… what about Vidal, Otamendi, Pogba, Schweinsteiger and the rest?
