Times have been tough for Louis van Gaal, but 2016 might bring kinder days for the Dutchman.
We’re just two days into the new year, but already the Manchester United forwards have rediscovered the Old Trafford net after both Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial were on the scoresheet on Saturday.
In a post-match interview, a clearly looser Van Gaal couldn’t hide his joy as he waxed lyrical about the contributions of the two goalscorers, as well as Ashley Young.
But it was Rooney’s sublime finish which drew out the giddiness that has been missing for so long from the United boss.
