Say what you will about Louis van Gaal but the man knows how to pique one’s curiosity.
The Manchester United boss isn’t the most open book when it comes to deciphering his vagueries and fans of the Red Devils will be itching to know what their manager means with his latest statement regarding the striking options available to the him now that Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao are no longer with the club.
Speaking after United’s 1-0 win over Club America, van Gaal said: “We have Rooney, he can play in the strikers’ position and all media had written he should play there so I listen and now you put this question so don’t know what you want.
“Also Chicharito and maybe Wilson and maybe there comes a surprise. It’s a process. I’m not worried about that position.”
What on earth could he mean by the surprise? Does he mean a new signing like Edinson Cavani or Karim Benzema? Or could he turn one of his current players into a striker?
I mean, we saw Phil Jones taking corners last season. Is LVG going to really test Jones’ versatility?
