Louis van Gaal isn’t happy with Bastian Schweinsteiger’s form

Imagine what he makes of Rooney's form then

“Until now we haven’t seen the best of Schweinsteiger.”

Louis van Gaal isn’t happy with Bastian Schweinsteiger’s form. Following Saturday’s goalless draw with West Ham at Old Trafford, the Manchester United manager said that he expected more from the German when he signed him from Bayern Munich last summer.

“The reason why we have bought Schweinsteiger is because he’s a player who can lead and guide a team,” Van Gaal said.

“It’s not just because of his football abilities that we bought him. Until now we haven’t seen the best of Schweinsteiger, the player I saw at Bayern Munich.”Watford v Manchester United - Premier LeagueThe 31-year-old German captain has been a near ever present for United this season, and scored his first goal for the club last week in the 1-1 draw at Leicester City. His shot, deflected in by Watford striker Troy Deeney, also gave Van Gaal’s side a last-minute victory against the Premier League new boys last month.

However, Van Gaal believes he should be contributing more.

“I believe that in every match we have played he could have played better. I think I have to discuss with Bastian Schweinsteiger and not with you,” Van Gaal said, after discussing Schweinsteiger’s form.

The United manager also said he was watching his words because he didn’t want to provide ammunition for club legends.

“Otherwise we have a tactical article about Bastian and then the reaction of the legends to that article so I don’t think that is wise. But I know he can be better.”
