Liverpool agree four-year contract with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara

The two clubs are yet to agree a deal.

Liverpool have agreed a four-year contract with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who has announced his departure to teammates, according to RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.

The Reds have been linked with the Spain midfielder all summer, as they seek to strengthen their squad after they coasted to their first league title in 30 years.

According to Bouhafsi, while Liverpool and Bayern Munich are yet to agree a fee, Thiago has already found a house in the area.

The Italy-born Spanish international started his career with Barcelona, where he won four LaLiga titles and a Champions League before moving to Bayern Munich for €25 million in 2013.

He was won the league title in all of his seasons in Bavaria and in doing so earned himself a reputation as one of world football’s best playmakers. Doubts remain, however, over his fitness, with injuries often limiting his time on the pitch at the Allianz Arena.

A February 2020 interview with The Independent offered a fascinating insight into Alcantara and his philosophy on the game. He commented:

“My style is not only because of Barca. There is also the Brazilian idea of a pivot. Barca gives you the philosophy to understand the game of Barca. The rest, you pick up along the way.

“That, to me, is control – that everything you have trained comes off.”

It sounds as if the Italian-born Spanish international will fit in well at Anfield, if both sides can now agree on a fee.
