Poor old Christian doesn’t look like he is going to get a second season to prove his worth.
Christian Benteke has scored eight goals in 27 games [14 starts] for Liverpool this season but has received criticism for being too immobile for the club’s current style.
Having been bought as a target man, Benteke now has to cover a lot more ground to fit in with the Reds’ high-pressing tactics. He has not helped himself, however, with some glaring misses since his summer 2015 arrival.
Now, according to various reports this morning, Jurgen Klopp is prepared to move the Belgian on.
West Ham have been alerted to Benteke’s impending availability but several other European sides would be interested in signing the former Aston Villa striker.
Were Benteke to remain in England, his wages may prove a stumbling block for any transfer. The most likely option, according to The Times, is for Benteke to go out on loan.
Liverpool would have to supplement is £120,000-a-week wages. The Mirror claim the Hammers would be willing to pay £80,000 per week, leaving Liverpool £40k down each week and saying goodbye to £2m over the course of a year.
Costly business.
