Uncanny.
Reports in Germany claim Liverpool are set to make a move for Emil Forsberg, a 24 year old Swedish winger playing for Red Bull Leipzig in the German second division.
Bild claim Jurgen Klopp is prepared to pay €9 million for the player regarded as the best in Bundesliga II. Forsberg has also reportedly attracted interest from Italian clubs Roma and Inter Milan. While many thought the new Liverpool manager’s first signing would be from Germany, most would’ve expected it to be someone from his former club Borussia Dortmund, rather than a player in the second division.
Liverpool also appear short up-front, with Daniel Sturridge struggling for fitness, Christian Benteke still adapting to Klopp’s preferred style of play and Divock Origi still a raw prospect, so fans shouldn’t expect Forsberg to solve that particular conundrum.
The Swede is a winger and only has five goals this season. He also scored his first goal for his country in the Euro 2016 play-off against Denmark.
However, Klopp has found diamonds in the rough in the past, signing Shinji Kagawa for Dortmund from the Japanese second division, and pipping Blackburn Rovers to Robert Lewandowski.
What’s for certain though is that Forsberg is a dead ringer for his potential new teammate Lucas Leiva.
