Brendan Rodger’s men leapfrog the Swans into eighth place after 4-1 win
Alberto Moreno put Liverpool on course for a home win over mid-table rivals Swansea at Anfield. The Spaniard converted Jordan Henderson’s cross after 34 minutes to ram home Liverpool’s attacking advantage.
The best chance, up until that point, had been a double pop at the Swansea goal but Luka Fabianski kept Raheem Sterling’s effort out and Adam Lallana found Row Q when the ball squeaked his way.
The other incident of note in the first half was Jonjo Shelvey recklessly flinging an elbow back at makeshift ‘Pool defender Emre Can.
Gary Neville and Jame Carragher both agreed that Shelvey should have walked for the indiscretion.
Lallana doubled Liverpool’s lead after the break when he charged down a ponderous Fabianski clearance but Gylfi Siggurdson answered back less than two minutes later. Sterling then struck the Swansea woodwork to cap off five crazy minutes – from 47 to 52.
Lallana added his second after a nifty backheel from Philippe Countinho and left, on 77 minutes, to a standing ovation. The icing was layered onto Liverpool’s victory cake when Shelvey headed a Henderson corner into his own net.
