Not for the first time this season, Liverpool fans weren’t all too impressed with what they saw from Emre Can on Sunday afternoon.
The German has taken plenty of flak from the club’s supporters in recent weeks and, deployed by Jürgen Klopp as a defensive midfielder, his performance during the first half with Burnley drew more criticism.

Does Emre Can know the match has started?

It wasn’t just Liverpool supporters who were damning in their assessment of Can’s performance. Gary Neville, on co-commentary duty with Sky Sports for the game, highlighted how the 23-year-old appeared to ease out of a challenge with a Burnley player shortly after the away side had taken the lead.
“He ducked out of that,” Neville remarked. “He bottled it. Just what you want from your holding midfielder; no wonder they concede goals”
Despite spending a career with Manchester United, plenty of Liverpool supporters couldn’t help but agree with Neville’s verdict on Can.

Despite clearly having much to prove to many of the club’s supporters, Can is reportedly looking to secure an improved contract at Anfield. Italian champions Juventus are said to be interested in the midfielder should a new deal fail to materialise.
