Liverpool fans on the Kop to fly flag in honour of 11 year old fan who sadly passed away

The classiest of gestures

The term “classy gesture” is bandied about quite a bit.

But this really is a classy gesture.

Owen McVeigh sadly passed away last month from leukaemia. The 11 year old was a regular at Anfield with his father, and even attended away Liverpool games.

You may even remember last February, following Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, when Martin Skrtel gave Owen his jersey.

Owen tragically lost a short battle last month, and in his memory Spion Kop 1906, a group that organise flags and banners on The Kop, will display a special flag in his honour.

The flag will be present at future games, starting with tomorrow night’s League Cup second leg against Stoke City.

The group also posted this message on their Facebook page, which also includes a heartbreaking letter from Owen’s father Mark.

Tomorrow night we will have a flag on the kop in tribute to young Owen Mcveigh who used to help us out with the flags….
