Leaked images appear to confirm Manchester United’s next third kit and it’s a gorgeous grey

Oh she's a beauty

Manchester United’s last grey kit is fondly remembered by fans. Fans of rival clubs, that is.

They might have secured a league and cup double in 1995/96, but United only managed to pick up a solitary point while wearing the strip.

When they found themselves 3-0 down to Southampton at half-time of their trip to The Dell in April 1996, Sir Alex Ferguson decided enough was enough. United changed into their blue and white third strip and went on to score the only goal of the second half.

The kit was never to be seen again.

Now, over two decades on, it seems United are set for a return to grey.

Another batch of ‘leaked’ images are doing the rounds which all but confirm that the club’s 2017/18 third kit will be grey. Shared by Footy Headlines – a website with a good track record for revealing new kits before their official launch – the images show a predominantly light grey shirt.

The graphic that’s seen on the shirt – showing the statue of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton that stands opposite Old Trafford’s East Stand – is believed to have been submitted by a fan. Adidas, who invited the club’s supporters to design their next third kit on their Creator Studio several months back, are said to have made a few adjustments to the design before its release at the end of July.
