Denied last summer, will Manchester United go back for another nibble at the cherry?
There was a lot of talk, during the summer of 2015’s transfer window, of United attempting to get Felipe Anderson onto their books.
Once that window closed, many assumed the transfer link was mere speculation. However, the 22-year-old has confirmed the interest was real.
Anderson told UOL that United made a concrete bid, reported to be £39.5m [€50m], for his services. The Brazilian said:
“An offer came in last year from Manchester United. Lazio have confirmed this and preferred to keep me to have a great season.”
Anderson has appeared 40 times [28 starts] for Lazio this season, scored eight goals and made three assists. When fit, he has delivered the goods but Lazio remain in eighth in Serie A.
Louis van Gaal obviously approved of chief executive Ed Woodward’s plan to get Anderson in the door.
It remains to be seen if United go back to the Italian side again, especially if van Gaal moves on during the summer.
