Following on from the moving rendition of the French national anthem ahead of England’s friendly with France, the Premier League has announced it will follow suit.

All 10 grounds to hold a top-flight game this weekend will play La Marseillaise as what the league describes as “An act of remembrance and solidarity” after the Paris attacks.

“We were all saddened and deeply shocked by the events in Paris last Friday, and the fact it was an attack on people enjoying their everyday freedoms like going to a bar, a concert or a football match resonates with football fans and the general public throughout the UK,” said Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore.

Six members of France’s starting line-up at Wembley currently play in the Premier League, and Scudamore has pointed to “the long-standing relationship that exists between the Premier League and France”.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of the effect the terror attacks have had on centre-back Laurent Koscielny, who may miss the match against West Brom as a consequence.
