Following news that Martin Skrtel faces six weeks on the sidelines following a hamstring injury, Liverpool are looking to Serie A to bolster their defence.
Reports in Italy suggest that Jurgen Klopp has identified Juventus centre-back Martin Caceres as the man to add solidity and bite to the Anfield club’s porous backline.
Caceres has only featured in two games for the Italians since he was suspended and fined for a drink-driving incident in September.
The Uruguayan smashed his £200,000 Ferrari 458 Italia into a bus stop and two parked cars after losing control of the vehicle.
Klopp is hoping to sign the 28-year-old in next month’s transfer window, but he faces stiff competition from Turkish side Fenerbahce.
