Jurgen Klopp makes ambitious pledge in his press conference as Liverpool manager

Laying down a marker

Jurgen Klopp has targeted a Premier League title within the first four years of his Liverpool tenure.

Speaking at his first press conference as Liverpool manager, Klopp said: “When I sit here in four years. I think we’ll have won one title.”

The German takes over having guided Borussia Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles in his time there, and believes he can replicate his success in England.

“Please give us time to work on it. Please be patient,” he said. “I don’t say we have to wait 20 years, in four years I hope to win one title.”

Klopp also promised to bring his trademark swashbuckling style that to Anfield: “Everybody knows me. I didn’t change in four months… We have to play emotional football… It will be full throttle football.”

The only potential problem with Klopp’s pledge to win a title within four years is that he has only signed a three year contract at Anfield, which harks back to Gerard Houllier ‘being six years into a five-year plan’.
