Jurgen Klopp set for Premier League stint after requesting summer release from Dortmund

Liverpool, Man City or Arsenal?

Patrick McCarry

Jurgen Klopp may be lighting the Premier League up very soon.

Bild newspaper are exclusively reporting, today, that the Borussia Dortmund manager has requested to be released from his contract over the summer.

Klopp, who has led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and one German Cup over a seven-year stint, is contracted with the club until 2018 but is said to be eager for a new challenge.

Dortmund reached the Champions League final in 2013 but, shorn of several stars that have been picked off by big-spending rivals, have seen fortunes dip in recent seasons. The club were stuck in the relegation zone earlier in the season but have since climbed to 10th.

The most likely Premier League destination for Klopp would appear to be Manchester City, who may part ways with Manuel Pellegrini in the summer. The German has been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United in the past.

Bild believe that Klopp may wish to take a sabbatical, away from the game, after his long stint at Dortmund’s helm. The tease.

Klopp had recently signalled that Mats Hummels, his star defender, could soon be off to the Premier League.

He told DW Sport, ‘He’s good enough for Manchester United. He’s told me he’s thinking things over.

‘We’re always looking around the market ourselves. That we want to keep Mats is beyond question. How that works out I don’t know.

‘There’s always a list of players who would be interesting in the event that you need them.’
