Juan Mata was on a one-man mission to ruin Manchester United fans’ plans to get players’ names on the back of their jerseys.
The Spaniard had a whole new idea for the specific numbers that his colleagues should wear at the start of this season.
France Football report that, upon the arrival of Morgan Schneiderlin to Old Trafford, Mata offered his number 8 shirt to his new teammate on one condition.
Mata would only give up his number 8 if Wayne Rooney was willing to part company with the number 10 that he has worn since Ruud van Nistelrooy left the club in 2006.
Rooney wouldn’t budge and Schneiderlin settled for the number 28 while Mata and Rooney remained with their original squad numbers.
Who new Juan was so fussy?
