A good day at the office for Manchester United’s manager.
One win won’t alleviate or negate the criticisms that Jose Mourinho has rightfully received since taking over from Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United, but the 2-0 victory against Chelsea was a very definitive step in the right direction for his side.
Despite receiving criticism for his initial team selection, Mourinho’s men completely outfought and stifled the league leaders.
The result will also give Spurs hope that they can catch Conte’s men in the title race.
Mourinho will undoubtedly say that these three points are no different than a win against any other Premier League side, but deep down we all know that this isn’t exactly true.
Given the nature of his recent acrimonious departure from Stamford Bridge, it’s highly unlikely that The Special One not won’t feel like this win was just that little bit more special.
There’s no denying that United still have an awful lot of work to do if they want to reach the Champions League – the Europa League game against Anderlecht is evenly poised and they still have four points to make up on Manchester City – but Easter Sunday was a day of celebration for Mourinho and he wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass him by.
Take a look as the Portuguese manager heads to the dressing room. We wonder if he’s particularly happy that Ander Herrera did a superb man marking job on Eden Hazard?
He just couldn’t resist.
