John Giles might be leaving RTE to join rivals

Pundits on the move

TV3 might be lining up a shock move for out of favour football pundit John Giles.

The legendary footballer and pundit is said to be unhappy about being dropped from the RTE panel ahead of last weekend’s crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland.

Giles previously blasted RTE’s Head of Sport Ryle Nugent for not contacting him about his removal from the RTE panel.

“I’m very disappointed. It’s one of the biggest games we’ve had in recent times.”

“I would have liked to get a call from the Head of Sport to explain to me what the situation is.”

This sparked rumours that Giles might be looking to leave the station he had paid so many years of service, with TV3 being the likely destination. These only intensified as a spokeswoman for TV3 remained coy on whether the station could be interested in trying to snap up the 74-year-old, in an interview with the Star.

“As you would have seen, we are always bringing new talent into the mix, recently Gaizka Mendieta and Luis Garcia, so you never know.”

You never know? Surely, you do. The vagueness is killing us.
