‘Oh 2015/16… that was just a blip’
It’s that time of year again, when pundits, experts, punters and mates make their Premier League predictions.
Sky Sports have got the takes of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Graeme Souness, Jamie Redknapp and Thierry Henry ahead of the new season and not one is backing league champions Leicester City for a top four finish. As for Tottenham, tough luck.
Manchester City and United are the only sides predicted from the quintet as Premier League winners.
Neville and Souness have both named Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has ‘the balls to be a real star’, as their player to watch. Carragher has gone for City’s Kevin de Bruyne while Henry is excited to see how former Southampton speedster Sadio Mané.
Redknapp has gone for a league newcomer and a former Luton and Brentford player. He said:
“Obviously you’ve got the likes of Pogba and Leroy Sane but I like watching a player who can thread a ball through the eye of a needle.
“That’s why I can’t wait to see him show those qualities. The surprise player I think will be Burnley’s Andre Gray. He’s another one to watch.”
Gray tore it up in the Championship last season while Mkhitaryan cost United a reported £35m.
As for top scorer, three are going for Aguero (Neville, Henry, Souness) while Carragher and Redknapp feel Harry Kane will find the target more often.
Neville feels Leicester will finish anywhere between seventh and 10th while Carragher says it will be a great season if Claudio Ranieri’s men get 8th.
