‘What did Liverpool do in the Champions League this year? Nothing. What did Raheem Sterling do? Nothing.’
Jamie Carragher says he shook Raheem Sterling’s hand last weekend, when he was up at Steven Gerrard’s final game at Anfield.
The civilities may now be at an end following the former Liverpool defender’s heavy criticism’s of the 20-year-old on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football last night.
Sterling looks determined to force a move away from Liverpool over the summer and, through a statement released through his agent, expressed discontent at the club openly discussing his contract renegotiations. Carragher believes that claim stinks of hypocrisy.
He believes Sterling may eventually move on and says it may not primarily be for money.
However, Sterling has cited trophies as another reason he wants to move. Carragher pointed out that Sterling was underwhelming in this season’s Champions League and was nowhere to be seen in Liverpool’s biggest game of the season – the FA Cup semi-final loss to Aston Villa.’
