This is sad.

Ronnie Moran has passed away age 83.

The former Liverpool captain, coach and caretaker manager had been suffering with dementia and his passing was confirmed by his son Paul on Wednesday morning.

Moran passed away after a short illness.

Moran was a true club legend at Anfield.

The former left-back joined his hometown team in 1952 and spent 16 years in the first team, making 379 appearances.

When he retired from playing, he became a full-time coach and a member of Bill Shankley’s famous “boot room.” Moran would work as a coach under every Liverpool manager from from the 1950s to the 1990s.

From Shankly through to Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan, Kenny Dalglish, and later under Graeme Souness and Roy Evans.

He also had two spells as caretaker manager, in 1991 and 1992 respectively, before retiring in 1998.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher led the tributes on social media to Moran.
