Is he right?

Jamie Carragher isn’t sure Jose Mourinho would be a good fit for Manchester United.

The Sky Sports pundit was speaking about the situation at Chelsea and United on tonight’s Monday Night Football, and said that while he respects Mourinho’s record, his style of management wouldn’t be suited to Old Trafford.

“If I think of Man United in the past 50 or 60 years of what they’re about, winning trophies, Jose massively ticks that box,” Carragher said.

“But bring through young players? No”

“Playing exciting football, cultured football, going for every game? He doesn’t tick that box either.”Manchester United v Chelsea - Premier LeagueMourinho has been linked with replacing the under-fire Louis van Gaal at United, but Carragher feels to appoint the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss would be a sign of desperation from the Old Trafford hierarchy.

“I think it will show the fear the Man United board have, maybe even some of the supporters who are chanting for him, of other teams getting away from them.

“Also the fact Pep Guardiola may be going to Man City, they’re thinking, ‘we’re actually falling behind’. So they’re actually going to forget some of the principles that made the club what they are for the last 50-60 years and they’re that desperate to get back to winning trophies.

Is Carragher right? His colleague Thierry Henry didn’t think so.
