Jamie Carragher cuts through all the crap with great advice for Jack Grealish

Wise words

Jack Grealish has been a news story for most of this week following publication of pictures, and videos, of him partying after Aston Villa’s 4-0 loss to Everton.

The 20-year-old is currently training with Villa’s U21s after an indefinite demotion from the senior squad.

Added to his club woes, it seems Grealish will not be officially registered with the English FA until late March. Grealish will eventually have his registration switched from the Football Association of Ireland.

A number of former players, including Paul Merson and Matt Le Tissier, have offered their opinions on the midfielder but Jamie Carragher has surely come up with the best advice.

Writing in The Daily Mail, Carragher stated, “Football, as Grealish has discovered to his cost once again, is like Big Brother.

“As a player, you are under surveillance everywhere you go. There is no escape. One false move, one poor performance and everyone knows about it.

Training sessions are filmed. GPS systems and OPTA log how much you are running. There have never been more cameras in stadiums than there are now and, when you go out, you are never more than one click of a phone away from being on social media.”

The former Liverpool defender then passed on the sage words he once received from Gerard Houllier:

“Don’t go to the nightclubs now. Buy a nightclub when you have finished playing.”

Plenty of balloons, sparklers and champagne – Grealish could get on board with that.
