Jamie Carragher has described Mohamed Salah as "selfish" for his comments publicly expressing his frustration at Liverpool not offering him a new contract yet.
Liverpool have been the stand-out side in this year's Premier League so far, and sit eight points clear at the top of the table.
However, off the pitch, there is major doubt about the future of their star man Salah, whose contract runs out in the summer.
Following the Reds' 3-2 win at Southampton on Sunday - in which the Egyptian forward scored two goals, including the winner - Salah told reporters he has yet to be offered a new deal to stay at Anfield and is "probably more out than in."
Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football last night, Liverpool legend Carragher said he was "very disappointed" in Salah for his comments.
He said: "Right now, there's obviously a big difference between the valuation - what Mo Salah and his agent value themselves at, whether that's financially or in terms of length of contract, to what Liverpool do.
"So the reason Liverpool haven't offered him a contract yet is because Mo Salah will turn it down."
The pundit continued: "I must say I am very disappointed with Mo Salah. Liverpool have got Real Madrid midweek [in the Champions League] and Man City at the weekend. That's the story for Liverpool right now.
Carragher pointed out that in the seven years Salah has been at Liverpool, he's stopped in the mixed zone to speak to reporters just twice.
"But he decides to stop for the third time away at Southampton on the back of winning Liverpool the game and put that out," he continued.
"If he keeps putting comments out, his agent puts out cryptic messages, that is selfish. That is thinking about themselves and not the football club."
Liverpool have not responded publicly to Salah's comments. Star players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are both also out of contract with the club in the summer.
Arne Slot's side are next in action on Wednesday night at Anfield when they renew their rivalry with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
