Deadline day chaos is well underway

As clubs scramble to get deals over the line at the last minute, it’s worth remembering there are also players scrambling to find a home as well.

Jack Wilshere was released by Bournemouth following the end of his short term contract this summer, and is yet to find a new home. The former Arsenal player recently gave a brutally honest interview to The Athletic, explaining that he has been training alone and was considering retiring from football at the age of 29 due to the lack of interest from clubs not only in the UK but anywhere.

Injuries have blighted his career and prevented the playmaker from becoming the player many hoped he would, but Wilshere insists he is fit and ready to play.

Reports in Italy are now claiming Wilshere is training with Serie B club Como, but that the club will not be able to register him as a player, suggesting that he is hoping for a club in the top flight of Italian football to take a late punt on the former England international.

You’d expect the style of Italian football to suit the current version of Wilshere better than the Premier League, where the intensity proved difficult for Wilshere in his recent spells at West Ham and Bournemouth.

Wigan Athletic’s chairman recently offered Wilshere a place in their squad in response to his interview, but it looks as though the player has not taken up the offer, still confident he can play at a higher level than League One. Only time will tell as to whether there is a club out there willing to take him on.
