Sheffield Wednesday came back from 2-0 down to go into injury time level with Bristol City. Then they ruined an Irishman’s night.
The punter was set to win himself over €1,300 after correctly calling three out of four matches as draws in his €10 accumulator.
All he was waiting on was for the final whistle to go at Hillsborough.
Wednesday were playing out a thriller with Bristol City but the game looked to be heading for a draw. Four goals, three yellow cards and two reds were shared and, in return, Wednesday and Rovers were set to be rewarded with a point apiece.
The punter, who shared a snap of his betting slip [below] with us, was set for a reward too.
Then, 96 minutes into their Championship clash, Kieran Lee stepped up to score his first goal of the season.
Speaking to the BBC after his side’s 3-2 win, Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal explained that the turnaround was all down to a half-time chat.
“Two-nil down at half-time was very heavy to us. I spoke very calmly to the players at half-time. It was important to speak calmly to them to explain how we could revert things.
“I spoke more to the heart of the players because it wasn’t down to their attitude. My players received the message and we did fantastic in the second half.”
For one Irish punter, the Wednesday players received the message a little too well.
