Ireland U21 star linked with perfect Premier League move

This would be the perfect next step in the striker’s development.

Ireland Under 21 star Tom Cannon has been linked with what would be a superb transfer to Premier League new boys Luton Town.

The 20-year-old striker is currently on the books at Everton, but spent last season on loan in the Championship with Preston North End.

Scoring 8 goals in 20 appearances, the Liverpool-born attacker has seen his stock rise considerably, with a host of clubs reportedly battling it out for his signature ahead of next season.

Preston are keen to retain Cannon’s services on a permanent basis, with fellow Championship side Sunderland also muted to be plotting a £3 million bid, according to the Sunderland Echo.

However, it is Luton Town who offer the striker the most appealing option should he decide to leave Goodison Park permanently this summer.

Having just secured promotion to the top-flight in whirlwind fashion via the play-offs, Luton are looking to add the goals necessary to help them beat the odds and stay in the division.

A summer of deliberation for Tom Cannon:

The Hatters have already signed compatriot Chiedozie Ogbene on a free transfer this summer, as they seek to add affordable talent to their ranks.

Kenilworth Road would appear to be the ideal fit for Cannon as he seeks to take the next step in his burgeoning career by becoming a Premier League regular.

Behind the likes of Dominic Calvert Lewin at the Toffees, he is unlikely to see much game time should he stay in situ on Merseyside.

Similarly, he has already proven his adaptability to the Championship, leaving Luton as the obvious first choice candidate.

Whilst they may struggle in this season’s top-flight, it offers the 20-year-old the tangible possibility of playing week in, week out, at the highest level.

Cannon doesn’t just have his club future to decide this summer though, after news broke last month that he has been approached by the English FA to switch international allegiances.

Having already been involved in a senior training squad under Stephen Kenny though, it is hoped he views his international future in the green of Ireland.
