Ireland hit with second big blow before France as squad lists confirmed

Lee Costello

Stephen Kenny must have one hell of a headache.

The Republic of Ireland squad has taken another big blow as the squad list to play France in the Euro 2024 qualifier has been confirmed.

Ireland are already without their talisman Evan Ferguson who scored an incredible hat-trick at the weekend against Newcastle for Brighton.

Stephen Kenny would have no doubt been planning on building the team around the young goal-scoring sensation but the injury news has hit the team hard.

Now Kenny has a further headache as Andrew Omobamidele isn’t on the match-day squad list, meaning that he won’t be available to play against France.

The Nottingham Forest defender is one of the mainstays in the backline and having Premier League experience is something that is highly valued on this panel.

Keeping megastars like Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann quiet isn’t exactly an easy task, even when you have your full squad available.

Ireland desperately need to pick up some points if they are to salvage any hope of qualifying for the international tournament next summer, and with a big game against Holland scheduled for the weekend, the fixtures don’t get any easier.

Here is the squad list in full:

Goalkeepers:

Gavin Bazunu
Caoimhin Kelleher
Mark Travers

Dara O’Shea
Enda Stevens

Jeff Hendrick
Jayson Molumby
