The former Everton and Manchester United manager is confident he can turn the Spanish strugglers’ season around.
David Moyes took his first press conference of his four-day reign at Real Sociedad and stated his wishes to become a coaching pioneer. ‘It’s the right time,’ he said. ‘I’m well rested. I’ve had six months out and I’m raring to go.’
Moyes, who lasted just 10 months into a six-year deal at Old Trafford, insists he ‘never had any doubt’ about making the move to La Liga. The Scot revealed he had many offers from ‘different clubs in different countries’ but was eager to test himself in Spain.
He commented, ‘To come here gives me the opportunity to manage in La Liga. At present, it is the best league in the world.’ Moyes admits the task of climbing the league table with a side currently sitting 15th after a poor start to the season will be a huge challenge. It is one, however, he is sure he can master.
As for planting a fluttering Union Jack in Spanish soil and beckoning the coaching likes of Alan Curbishley and Phil Brown on, Moyes declared, ‘It is an opportunity to go and show British managers they can manage abroad… hopefully I’m the first of many.’
