Even in hospital, Harvey Elliott showed his class

Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott has gifted his match shirt and one of his boots to a young footballer who was also admitted to hospital on Sunday night.

Elliott suffered a nasty injury in the second half of Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Leeds United yesterday afternoon.

The 18-year-old dislocated his ankle after a challenge from Leeds defender Pascal Struijk, who, after a brief VAR check, was shown a straight red card for his tackle.

The youngster, who enjoyed an impressive first half and had seen himself start in three of the Reds’ opening four fixtures, was stretchered off and taken straight to hospital.

The severity of the situation immediately became clear as Mohamed Salah, who was close by at the time of the challenge, frantically waved for medical attention.

Despite suffering what appears to be a long-term injury, Elliot seemed to be in good spirits as he briefly acknowledged the Leeds fans who were applauding him as he exited the field.

Soon after, he was able to send a quick post to his Instagram Stories. Reportedly taken from the back of an ambulance, Elliott can be seen giving the thumbs up in the image.

‘Thank you for the messages guys,’ the accompanying message reads. ‘Road to recovery.’

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford was amongst those to wish Elliott well in the minutes after his injury.

‘Ahhhh man rivalry aside that looks really nasty, no one wants to see that, thoughts are with you Harvey,’ the Manchester United forward’s tweet read.

Speaking later, Klopp confirmed that Elliott would be out for a long time. “It’s a bad injury,” Klopp said. “It’s his ankle – it was dislocated and it has now been put back. He is now in the hospital.”

Whilst in hospital, Elliott still managed to make a young fan’s day (and probably his year) as he gifted the youngster – who had suffered a broken arm during his own football game – his match-worn shirt and one of his boots.

‘My son has just broken his arm at a footy game this afternoon,’ wrote the young kid’s mother.

‘Who comes in on the bed next to him… Harvey Elliott and his family. Gives him his LFC top from the game and his shoe. Son’s buzzing now!’

The extent of Elliott’s injury is yet to be determined, however, it is expected that Liverpool will have a better idea after the 18-year-old undergoes surgery in the coming week.
