The winger made his comeback for Newcastle Under-21s earlier today.
Jonas Gutierrez played his first game today since overcoming testicular cancer. The 31-year old returned to training with Newcastle last month after receiving treatment in his native Argentina after discovering a tumour in September of this year. Gutierrez underwent surgery and chemotherapy before receiving the all-clear from doctors in November.
The winger lost his first team position with the club, spending a spell on loan with Norwich last season, but remains a fan favourite with Newcastle supporters. Gutierrez joined the club in 2008 , scoring 10 goals in 177 appearances and was part of the side that won the Championship in 2010.
Gutierrez played 87 minutes of his comeback game with West Ham Under-21s today and tweeted after the game expressing his joy at being back on a football pitch.
Thanks to all the fans for the support that you give through my illness, i am proud to be back. Good game and really happy. Thanks
