Paul Scholes could still do a job for most Premier League clubs.
The ginger prince was at his classiest, on Sunday, as he pulled strings, hared box-to-box and made his customary late tackles in a 4-2 friendly win for Manchester United over Bayern Munich in a legends game.
One of the main talking points from the game was the successful renewal of the Dwight Yorke/Andy Cole striking axis.
However, two moments that brought hearty applause from the United supporters arrived from Scholes.
It would not be a typical Scholes outing without a late challenge or a cheeky foul. He got some of the ball here but still felt the shrill blast of the referee’s whistle thrumming in his direction.
Scholes also showed that he has lost none of his vision or passing abilities.
