Massive outlay

The Armenian is expected to be officially announced this week.

Borussia Dortmund have announced that Manchester United have signed their attacking midfielder, Henrikh Mkhitaryan. United featured an away jersey, for sale, with ‘Mkhitaryan’ on their website.

It took another few days for United to officially push the news out themselves:

It has been widely reported that United have signed the 27-year-old for £26m but the final fee may be significantly higher.

Bild claim United are to pay Dortmund €42m [£35m] to secure Mkhitaryan’s services. Added to the initial outlay is a signing-on bonus of €8m [£6.7m] that goes straight to the player, with a sizeable percentage for his agent Mino Raiola.

Mkhitaryan, the paper states, will be paid €12.5m [£10.5m] per season. That’s a whopping €240,000 a week. That totals €50m [£42m] over the course of his reported four-year deal.

That is a total outlay of €100m [£84m] by United as they rebuild a squad that finished fifth in the league, last season, and won the FA Cup.
