A huge blow for Gary and Phil Neville, and their extended family.
Neville Neville, who was also the agent for both Phil and Gary during their playing careers, suffered a heart attack and fell ill on his way to Australia, where his daughter Tracey is managing the England netball team at the World Cup.
His unfortunate passing was confirmed this morning.
Gary Neville will now miss the opening weekend of the Premier League as he is on sympathetic leave.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Sky Sports’ key man, Gary, and Valencia coach, Phil, will both fly out to Australia with immediate effect.
Bury Football Club, with whom the 65-year-old had a long working relationship with, released the following statement:
‘Neville was taken seriously ill on Tuesday and unfortunately did not recover, passing away earlier today. Our deepest condolences are extended to Jill, Gary, Philip and Tracey and the entire Neville family.’
And, Gary, who was expected to be covering Liverpool’s opener with Stoke on Sunday, not to mention his usual Monday Night Football slot with Jamie Carragher, is going to be in absentia for the first weekend of the league.
Phil Neville, meanwhile, will miss Valencia’s friendly with Roma, on Saturday.
We are sad to learn that Neville Neville, father of Gary and Phil, has passed away. Our condolences go out to his family.
