Gary Neville reaches a whole new level of smug after Liverpool’s defeat

The Sky Sports pundit was very quick to announce the final score of Bournemouth’s win over Liverpool on Saturday.

Gary Neville, who did not enjoy last weekend’s thrashing at the hands of Liverpool, understandably made the most of the Reds’ loss at the Vitality stadium.

Sharing a video to Instagram, the 48-year-old said, “With no Final Score today, here is the early result: Bournemouth 1-0 Liverpool.”

Neville also posted the same sentiment on Twitter, adding, “… and they’re playing so well.”

Liverpool failed to keep up their momentum following their extraordinary result against arch-rivals United last week, where they came out 7-0 winners.

This weekend saw Jurgen Klopp’s men play out a disappointing loss away to bottom of the table Bournemouth. The Reds lost by a single Philip Billing goal, with Mohamed Salah firing over a second half penalty.

Neville was the centre of plenty of embarrassment on Sky Sports last weekend, unable to hide his emotions after seeing his former team get trounced.

His post-match war of words with Graham Souness ended up with him having egg on his face after the former Liverpool man stated that United had “been embarrassed again today.” Neville tried to argue that the result was a freak incident.

“It’s a recurring situation for this group of players,” retorted Souness. “What is it you don’t understand about facts?”

The situation was compounded when Neville seemed to look at former teammate Roy Keane for back-up, but the Irishman made the intelligent choice to say nothing.

Manchester recovered impressively from their disappointing result last week with a 4-1 win over Spanish side Real Betis in their midweek Europa League game.
