“You absolute numpty.”
Gary Neville has hit out at the Arsenal supporter who invaded the pitch during the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday.
After the home side doubled their lead, a fan broke from the stands and ran onto the pitch, approaching United defender Chris Smalling.
Neville, on commentary duty for Sky Sports, was furious about the incident and was heavily critical of the Arsenal fan who broke onto the pitch.
“You absolute numpty,” Neville said about the fan when watching a replay of the incident.
“I said earlier on today (about Birmingham), they have to be punished for it and Arsenal do as well because I was watching the Rangers game at Hibs on Friday night (where James Tavernier was involved in an incident) and if fans think they can get away with it, and clubs think they can get away with it… There has to be a deterrent. We’ll be back with fences if we’re not careful.”
Earlier in the day, a Birmingham City supporter attacked Jack Grealish during the derby game against Aston Villa.
