Chelsea have reportedly opened talks to sign Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho, according to The Athletic.
The 19-year-old winger has also attracted interest from Napoli, who reportedly had a bid rejected by the Red Devils.
Napoli had identified Garnacho as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain in a big-money move.
However, Chelsea’s surprise entry into the race could significantly complicate the situation for the Italian club.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea are in the market for a winger and are also interested in signing Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund.
Their pursuit of Garnarcho is said to be at an early stage.
Garnacho emerged as a key figure for United last season.
The Argentine winger, 20, scored 10 goals in 50 appearances as the Red Devils won the FA Cup. Garnacho also won the Puskas Award for his incredible overhead kick against Everton.
The winger, however, was dropped by Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby in December
Man United are reportedly willing to let Garnacho leave if they receive a transfer bid that matches their valuation of the player. The club must overhaul their squad, and can only do that by generating funds through transfers.
Amorim, however, maintains that he still sees a place for the winger in his team.
“He has talent," the Portugese coach said.
"He’s finding the best way to play in this system and improving during training.”
