Former Liverpool defender Conor Masterson signs for QPR

Former Liverpool defender Conor Masterson has signed for Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Masterson left Anfield at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract, however, he has since been picked up by QPR where he will look for more first-team opportunities.

“To sign for QPR is an honour and a privilege and I can’t wait to get started,” Masterson told the club’s website.

“I learnt so much during my time with Liverpool, had some unbelievable experiences and I think that will carry through into QPR.”

Masterson impressed for the Liverpool underage sides but ultimately could never crack the first team despite being named on the bench for the Reds’ Champions League tie with Manchester City and their Merseyside derby clash with Everton.

QPR manager Mark Warburton said that he hopes that Masterson can challenge for a place in the Rangers’ starting side and that age will not be a decisive factor for him in selection.

“I have watched Conor’s progress and he is another young player with a lot of potential in him.

“What he will be looking to do is come in, bed himself into the dressing room and challenge for a place in the team.

“I want the pathway for young players here to be clear. If they are good enough, I’ll play them – I don’t care if they are 17 or 37, it’s about being good enough and having that desire to play for QPR.”
