What better way to start a Monday than with a promotion.

Lee Carsley has been handed a brand spanking new job title after Brentford offered him the manager’s position following Marinus Dijkhuizen’s dismissal.

Everton v Fulham

Carsley, who represented Ireland on 40 occasions, will now take the hot seat at Griffin Park, having been in charge of Brentford’s development squad.

Brentford have won only two of their eight Championship games since the start of the campaign which has left them in 19th place in the table but the club are hoping that the former Derby and Everton midfielder can turn their fortunes around as he takes charge for the remainder of the season.

Dijkhuizen’s sacking and Carsley’s appointment were confirmed in a club statement this morning.

“Lee has vast experience of the English game and has hugely impressed with his work with the Club’s Development Squad. He will be assisted by Paul Williams.

“The Club believes Lee deserves the opportunity to step up and help shape Brentford FC’s future on the pitch. Chairman Cliff Crown will update supporters via the Brentford FC website this afternoon.”

Brentford have famously adopted the so-called Moneyball method of club management as they use statistical analysis, metrics and other things that we don’t understand to get the best results possible.

Carsley better get used to looking at charts, lots and lots of bloody charts.
