Like all Newcastle fans, Faustino Asprilla was disappointed to see his former club relegated on Wednesday night.
Sunderland’s 3-0 win over Everton condemned Newcastle to the drop for the second time in seven years and the Colombian responded by tweeting a sarcastic congratulatory message to the club’s current crop of players.
@NUFC Welcome to the championship; you guys worked very hard to get there! pic.twitter.com/hc5fPujnCa

He followed this post with another tweet (which for some reason was accompanied by a picture of him with former teammate David Ginola and former manager Kevin Keegan) calling for the players to work hard to get the club back into the Premier League.
Work very hard to come back to @premierleague for your fans.
WE DESERVE IT!! #NUFC pic.twitter.com/FVR0EAjQUE— Faustino Asprilla (@TinoasprillaH) May 11, 2016
Along with Asprilla, Alan Shearer tweeted his assessment of Newcastle’s relegation shortly after it was confirmed, stating that the club had not learned the lessons from 2009 – the last time they were relegated.
