Fans aren’t happy about Steve McManaman’s ‘sour’ behaviour after Villarreal beat Liverpool

Nooruddean Choudry

Steve McManaman is a pundit who wears his heart very much on his sleeve.

The BT Sport pundit doesn’t pretend to hide his allegiances to the red half of Merseyside, and his Liverpool affiliations are always apparent when he is providing his opinions to matches affecting the Red Men.

But his reaction to Villarreal’s injury time winner in a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final hasn’t gone down very well amongst viewers of BT Sport’s coverage of the game.

McManaman wasn’t in magnanimous mood as he bemoaned the result, arguing that Liverpool were far superior to their Iberian counterparts, and shouldn’t have lost to the supposedly lesser La Liga side.

“I don’t think they’re very good,” McManaman told BT Sport.

“I think if Liverpool showed any positivity and the game flows like it did today, and with the magnificent crowd at Anfield, Liverpool should run all over them.”

Although fellow Scousers may have agreed with his partisan opinion of the match, other fans didn’t appreciate what they saw as unnecessary ‘sourness’ and an unprofessional show of ‘bias’.

Here are just a few of the peeved responses to the former Liverpool winger’s slightly skewed views after the attritional first leg at the Estadio El Madrigal…
