For many, it was the final straw.
Everton fans have lived through enough ups and downs in recent years to recalibrate their expectations when things take a downward turn. To call them gluttons for punishment would be a tad extreme, but you can't fault their patience when it comes to persevering with mediocrity.
But this season was meant to be different. Having spent a whopping £142m in the summer, backed up by some of the most exciting youngsters in the country, there was reason for real optimism. Most supporters were patient and realistic to know that a top four finish was unlikely but at the very least they expected some clear progress.
But the very opposite has transpired. The team are sinking under expectation and playing like they're scared to touch the ball. Results are awful and the performances are arguably worse. And it seems the fans have lost all confidence in their manager Ronald Koeman - a man who keeps banging on about managing Barca one day.
A dismal 2-2 draw against a 10-man Apollon Limassol this week was the final straw for many. They want the Dutchman out, and it's clear who most want to replace him; someone who gets the club, loves the fans, and has worked wonders with the young stars at the academy, David Unsworth.
