Dier clearly wanted his teammate to win the Golden Boot
The race for the Golden Boot might have passed you by amidst all the drama of the final day of the Premier League season. Liverpool’s Mo Salah had led the way with 22 league goals to his name ahead of his side’s game at home to Wolves.
Tottenham’s Son Heung-min following closely behind on 21. Salah, who had been withdrawn from the FA Cup final with a slight injury was named on the bench at Anfield, whereas Son scored twice in Spurs’ top four-clinching win at Norwich to briefly take the lead.
On as a second-half sub, a late goal for Salah meant both players finished on 23 – meaning the award was shared for the first time in three years.
Dier heard asking Krul what Mo Salah had given him
Spurs made light work of already-relegated Norwich, eventually winning 5-0 at Carrow Road. The home side had goalkeeper Tim Krul to thank for keeping the score down, as was highlighted by Eric Dier’s comment to him as the pair prepared for a Tottenham corner.
Son had just been denied by Krul, prompting Dier to jokingly ask if his performance was the result of Salah offering him some form of incentive to keep his Golden Boot rival at bay.
“What’s Salah giving you?” he could be heard saying on footage picked up by a camera behind the goal.
