A pitch invader reportedly tried to handcuff themselves to a goal during Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Liverpool on Wednesday.

The Gunners’ match against the Reds was temporarily halted in the second-half at the Emirates as a pitch invader ran onto the pitch.

As the ball went out of play in the 60th minute, a man sprinted onto the field and headed towards the goal.

The man, who is said to be a member of ‘Just Stop Oil’ – who oppose the plans for new UK Oil fields during 2022 – attempted to handcuff himself to a goal post before stewards managed to get to him and escort him from the pitch.

Just Stop Oil posted a video of the incident on Twitter, alongside the caption: “Sorry to have interrupted your game, but no one listens unless we do crazy shit like this. This beautiful game, like your lives, will be disrupted by increasingly extreme weather events in the years to come.

The 20-year-old Law student said: “If we lose control of our climate, which is exactly where we’re headed at the moment, then we put everything and everyone at risk. My generation won’t have a future.

“The government is encouraging more investment in oil and gas, despite the danger of climate collapse — I want the government to do all they can to avoid this.”

He ran onto the pitch just moments after Jurgen Klopp’s men opened the scoring through Diogo Jota, who was then substituted.

However, the game was quickly resumed after stewards led to pitch invader off the pitch.
