Emmanuel Petit showed no mercy when discussing Paul Pogba’s performances at Euro 2016 amid reports suggesting he’s on his way to Manchester United for £100m.
Pogba was the posterboy for the host nation but struggled to make an impact in a number of games, and failed to exert any influence during France’s 1-0 loss to Portugal in the final of the tournament.
French World Cup winner and former Arsenal midfielder Petit has claimed that spending a world record fee on the 23-year-old Juventus midfielder is “a waste of money.”
“Pogba has a great future, but this move is too early for him, I don’t like the situation around him all the time. We are making him out to be a big star, but he is not a big star to me.
“He hasn’t reached the level of the Champions League yet or the level with the national team. I am pretty sure he can do it, but this is too early for him.”

“The way people are talking about him all the time in the press, but I haven’t seen it yet. I haven’t seen the real Pogba yet. I’m sure he has the potential to reach all his targets, but for the moment, I’m not really convinced.”
Petit also said United would be better served spending their money on Luis Suarez, and questioned why Real Madrid, one of the world’s richest clubs, aren’t prepared to match United’s bid.
“If Real Madrid wanted this player, they would put the money on the table, but they don’t want to fight with Man United for Pogba. There is a reason for that.”
