Eden Hazard rejects Newcastle after Real Madrid accept their bid

Hazard has failed to score for Madrid so far this season.

Eden Hazard has reportedly snubbed a move to Newcastle United, despite the Magpies seeing an offer of £33.4million plus £8.3m in add-ons accepted by Real Madrid.

The 30-year-old has endured a difficult time in Spain since arriving from Chelsea in 2019, with a number of injuries and lack of form seeing the Belgian unable to live up to his £88m price tag.

The former Blues man’s underwhelming form has seen him fall down the pecking order under manager Carlo Ancelotti, with Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo often preferred on the wing.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is thought to be keen on selling Hazard in the January transfer window, with Los Blancos gearing up to sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer in the summer.

According to El Nacional, Perez accepted an offer of €40m (£33.4m), plus €10m (£8.3m) in add-ons, from Newcastle – with Magpies boss Eddie Howe desperate to strengthen his squad, particularly in attacking positions, as they look to avoid relegation this season.

However, the report adds that Hazard has rejected the chance to join Newcastle – with the Spanish outlet suggesting that the Belgian will only leave for a ‘big’ club.

Chelsea have long been linked with a reunion with Hazard, who starred at Stamford Bridge during his seven-year spell. He scored 110 goals and provided 92 assists in 352 appearances for the Blues, as well as winning two Premier League titles and Europa Leagues.

Despite his undoubted talent, Hazard’s campaign so far has been far from impressive – registering just one assist and failing to find the net all campaign.
