Ed Sheeran apologises for crashing Ruben Amorim’s Man United interview

Amorim did not look pleased to see him.

Ed Sheeran has said he “feels like a bellend” for crashing Ruben Amorim’s first post-match interview as Man United manager. The singer has issued an apology via social media.

Portuguese manager Amorim took charge of his first Man United game yesterday after being hired just before the international break.

His side took on Ipswich Town AND the game finished 1-1 after goals from Marcus Rashford and Omari Hutchinson.

Following the game, Sheeran, who is a huge Ipswich Town fan, minority owner, and front-of-shirt sponsor, crashed Amorim’s interview with the Sky Sports panel post-match.

Much was made of the awkward interaction on social media, leading to the singer issuing an apology on his Instagram account.

Sheeran wrote:

“Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, I didn’t realise he was being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. Obvz feel a bit of a bellend but life goes on. Great game though congrats on all involved.”

Ed Sheeran’s impromptu TV appearance was not the only controversial moment of the evening with Sky Sports pundit and former United captain, Roy Keane, getting into an altercation with an Ipswich fan.

After the game, Keane was seen exchanging heated words with some home supporters, appearing to tell one that he would “wait for him in the carpark”.

Keane had been manager at Ipswich for a year and a half between 2009 and 2011, however, was sacked following underwhelming results, leaving him unpopular at Portman Road.
