Dutch coach takes aim at Memphis Depay with some bizarre criticism

He has a point

Robert Redmond

This is perhaps the strangest criticism the Manchester United player will receive this season.

Memphis Depay has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League this season, and has been warned about his attitude by Louis van Gaal.

The Manchester United manager told Depay that, unless the player gets his act together, he could go the way of Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao and exit Old Trafford.

Other than his on field performances, and reported poor attitude, Depay has also struggled in the fashion stakes. The Dutch winger showed up to international duty wearing this outfit, and reportedly boycotted the media in his native country because they mocked it.CRwJgjOWwAAF0zfThe 21 year old has also been criticised in The Netherlands following their failure to qualify for Euro 2016, particularly by former Ajax coach Co Adriaanse. The 69 year old, speaking to Dutch media, accused Depay of being arrogant and dressing “like a Peruvian pan flute player.”

“He needs to be corrected. He must realise that he is a member in a football team, that he is not just an individual, a 100 metre sprinter like Usain Bolt.”

“He arrived as a Peruvian pan flute player at [Netherlands team hotel for a game against Iceland]. If you are a young boy and still have not done anything, do not play dress up as you report to the coach. [Cristiano] Ronaldo does that, but at least he is proven.

He does not even talk to the press, which he ignores. That cannot be the way. He represents us, the Dutch people. And we want to know what he thinks. He should always speak to them, and must be corrected.”

If you’re unsure exactly what a Peruvian pan-flute looks like, here you go. Adriannse may have a point.SPW_pic_--_Pandemic_P12
