Report: Manchester United to make move for West Ham wonderkid

Robert Redmond

Manchester United are preparing to make a move for Reece Oxford.

The 17-year-old became West Ham’s youngest ever player last August, when he started in the side’s 0-2 win over Arsenal at the Emirates, and is highly rated by a number of clubs.

West Ham rejected a £10m bid for the player from German side Red Bull Leipzig earlier this summer, and are taking measures to tie Oxford down on a long-term deal, according to The Daily Mirror.

The England U19 international has two years to run on his current deal.

However, United and Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly among a number of Premier League clubs who have scouted the player at the Euro Under-19 Championship, currently taking place in Germany.

Jose Mourinho is understood to be very keen on signing the player, and his attempts to bring him to Old Trafford may hinge on whether Oxford agrees to a new deal with the Hammers.

Oxford played 12 times in total for Slaven Bilic’s side last season, and may get more playing time this year as he continues his progression.
